A new mother who is also a marathon runner would like to take Cytomax (alpha l polylactate)...does anyone have any info? Thanks, Verial

    Dear Veria,

Alpha l polylactate appears to be lactic acid with the acid removed. Lactic acid is a by product of the muscles when exercised vigorously. Since it is naturally present in the body, this product would be unlikely to cause adverse effects in a breastfed infant. Cytomax also contains minerals. Just make sure you keep to the RDA (recommended daily allowance) of vitamins and minerals recommended by the Food and Drug Administration during breastfeeding. I didn't find any mention of caffeine in this product but if it contains caffeine, be sure to limit your caffeine intake to 120 mg daily to reduce the risk of sleep disturbance and irritability in your breastfed infant. Let me know if you have further questions.

    Sincerely,
