  • Use of ADHD meds (stimulants) with toddler nursing

    Hello,

I am in the process of finding an ADD medication. Adderall XR has been prescribed to me beginning at 10 mg. The doctor felt that I should wean my daughter before trying this medication.

I have weaned my 25 month old down to one nursing a day: every morning at approximately 7:30 am, for a few minutes. My question is, if I only nurse her in the morning, and take the medication after that, would that be acceptable? She would not nurse again until the following morning. If I can let her keep that, it would be really good for her, as she is struggling with the weaning, and I would prefer to let her continue.

This is my first attempt to medicate for this problem, so I wonder if other stimulants would be similar.

I really appreciate any help. Thank you.

I think your description of feeding only once daily, followed by the Adderall is probably just fine. At 25 months, the amount of drug passing into you milk would be negligible.
