I work in a quality control lab and perform a test on one of the products that requires the use of Dibutylphthalate. I am exclusively breastfeeding my infant and are concerned as to whether or not it can end up my breast milk.
The MSDS sheets showed a warning stating irregular periods, reproductive harm, and sterility in men, shortened gestational period. At 24 weeks of pregnancy, I was put on bed rest for having virtually no cervix and I was dilated 2 cm. I didn't have that problem with my other 2 children.
My company had a chemical hygienist come in and test the exposure to Dibutylphthalate on one of my coworkers. They measured it by using a box connected to a tube. He wore it for 5 hours.
We are still waiting on the results. My boss said exposure appears to be minimal.
My main concern today is whether this chemical can get into my breast milk. I am concerned for my infant. Please help!
