  • Hookah and breastfeeding

I had a mother call me recently about breastfeeding while using a "hookah". I told her I was unaware of what theat was and how it may affect breastfeeding. She stated she did not do while pregnant and would like to start up again. I stated I would find out for her and -pass it on. I can't imagine it being good for breastfeeding but alsa that is my personal bias. On a professional level, I want to give her the most accurate information.

    Thanks

    Jeanine:

A Hookah is apparently is a waterpipe, used for smoking tobacco, etc.(see wikipedia) I would imagine she could put just about anything in this pipe, so you'd have no way of knowing what product she is exposing the infant to.

Until you do know what she is using, then advise against its use.
