Smoking during pregnancy continues to be a problem with the biggest effect being infants born with low birth weights. Also, these infants are at a higher risk of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). It has been said that children of smokers have decreased intellectual abilities as well as behavioral problems later in life. This decrease in intellectual ability and increase in behavioral problems has been attributed to the nicotine found in tobacco products as well as carbon monoxide.
